Do Poly Shutters Burn?
Many web sites selling "Poly" shutters,
a synthetic material that does not contain wood,
used for making interior shutters, claim that their shutters
will not burn. We did an quick experiment using a small lighter
and a piece of a synthetic louver. I placed the flame to the
louver (see picture below) and found that the synthetic louver,
in fact, did not burn. Instead, the louver quickly melted emitting
a thick black smoke with a choking odor similar to a burning
car tire.
